~When I got a close look at this little guy's attitude... I thought he might be on the look-out. digipix preview What more could be going on deep inside my wife's golden lily? Like bank robbers, he and his pals were stealing sweet nectar without paying the flower's price of fertilization. The penality could be serious... entrapment and/or death! Ants have "NO FEAR... of anything!" and the have jumped on my camera when I get close enough. This little one in perticular__ laughed at ME! He then and there became my spirit messenger. I'm still not sure who's laugh is in the flowers? ~

Ants are rarely if ever welcome guests. Most plants have defence mechanisms to deter ants from getting into there nectar stores. It is usually some physical act beyond the ants power, like lift the lid_ so to speak. Ants will chew holes that humming birds too like to use, in the back of flowers.
