Thistler's dine surreal... via digiscopic ocular.

~My goldfinch feeder bag is suspended above a stone miniture elf on a swing. The two ropes shown are held in the cold hands of a Mr. Monk while my birds use the same ropes to gain a purch to their all time favorite food... thistle seeds. (digipix preview) I never see them eating anything else and these seeds are tiny. It could be that 100 thistle seeds equals only one calorie and they might need 50-100 calories on a bad day? This winter I have three 12" long nylon bags going and as many as 20 finches visiting my "Mr.Monk" station all day.

They will eat black oil sunflower seeds if there are no thistle seeds, but you're definitely right about what they prefer!
